How Is Pacific Northwest Climate Changing?
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Increasing temperatures. The Pacific Northwest warmed about +1.3°F between 1895 and 2011, with statistically-significant warming occurring in all seasons except for spring. [A][1][2] This trend is robust: similar 20 th century trends are obtained using different analytical approaches. [3] All but five of the years from 1980 to 2011 were warmer than the 1901-1960 average (Figure 2-1, Table 2-1). [1]

متن کاملLong-term growth-increment chronologies reveal diverse influences of climate forcing on freshwater and forest biota in the Pacific Northwest.
Analyses of how organisms are likely to respond to a changing climate have focused largely on the direct effects of warming temperatures, though changes in other variables may also be important, particularly the amount and timing of precipitation. Here, we develop a network of eight growth-increment width chronologies for freshwater mussel species in the Pacific Northwest, United States and int...
متن کاملCryptococcus gattii: Emergence in Western North America: Exploitation of a Novel Ecological Niche
The relatively uncommon fungal pathogen Cryptococcus gattii recently emerged as a significant cause of cryptococcal disease in human and animals in the Pacific Northwest of North America. Although genetic studies indicated its possible presence in the Pacific Northwest for more than 30 years, C. gattii as an etiological agent was largely unknown in this region prior to 1999. The recent emergenc...
متن کاملAdaption to Climate Change through Fallow Rotation in the U.S. Pacific Northwest
In this paper, we study the use of wheat land fallow production systems as a climate change adaptation strategy. Using data from the U.S. Census of Agriculture, we find that fallow is an important adaption strategy for wheat farms in the U.S. Pacific Northwest region. In particular, we find that a warmer and wetter climate increases the share of fallow in total cropland and thus reduces croplan...
